If you have prior DUI convictions and are facing an additional DUI charge in Portland or Gresham (Multnomah County Oregon), the DISP program may provide an alternative to a lengthy period of incarceration (jail). DISP is designed for people with two or more DUI convictions, and focused on helping such people maintain long-term sobriety.

What is Multnomah County’s DUI DISP Program?
“DISP” stands for “DUII Intensive Supervision Program.” The program is very similar to supervised probation, but it is more intense because of the restrictions. For three years, participants cannot drink, have alcohol in the house, frequent places where alcohol is served, cannot own a car, and cannot drive without court permission. On the upside, a DUI charge which might normally require 30-45 days in jail could be reduced to a one-time 24 hour jail term if the participant has no violations of the program.
A mission statement of the program can be found on the Multnomah County District Attorney’s website and the Oregon Judicial Department’s Multnomah County Circuit Court website has more detailed information on their Problem Solving Courts page.
The program was also covered in a 2010 article in The Oregonian by associate editor/columnist Susan Nielsen titled “Drunken driving in Oregon: Because all else fails, judges try tough love.” The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) also has a third-party review/discussion of the program on their Crime Solutions webpage.
Of most importance: Anyone considering the DISP program should read the 12-page DISP handbook which details the program eligibility and requirements.
