Portland Police Officer Arrested for DUI

Portland Police Officer Daniel Chastain of the Portland Police Bureau was arrested for DUI after speeding and crashing his car around 1:30pm on Monday April 25th, 2016 near the intersection of Southeast 172nd Avenue and Southeast Big Timber Court.

The Portland Police Officer was was off-duty, but driving a city-owned vehicle and “on call” at the time of his intoxication and crash. Officer Chastain was additionally charged with reckless driving, reckless endangerment, and first degree criminal mischief. Witnesses say he was going over 100mph.

OregonLive.com quotes the Portland Police Bureau as stating,

The Portland Police Bureau cannot comment further on a personnel matter because it could interfere with the process of conducting a neutral, objective internal investigation and the Bureau must protect public employees’ privacy interests consistent with the Oregon Public Records Law and relevant collective bargaining agreements.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is expected to investigate, and refer the case to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.

Portland Police Officer Daniel Chastain is a 17-year Portland police veteran and has been put on paid administrative leave. He is assigned to the bureau’s Tactical Operations Division. The Portland Police Bureau will conduct an internal review of the incident after the sheriff’s office investigation is complete, and the incident will be presented to the Police Review Board.

It is very likely that nothing will actually be done to the officer officially because– keep in mind– the Portland Police Bureau is probably the only police department on the entire West Coast that knowingly employs an actual Nazi sympathizer— in a supervisory role– within its ranks.
